Scars are an unavoidable part of any surgical procedure. Highly visible scars, however, are often completely avoidable. Scottsdale breast enlargement surgeon Dr. John Corey takes great care to place your incision in the most inconspicuous location. This alone is often enough to minimize visible scarring, but there are also steps you can take to help greatly reduce your risk and improve the final aesthetics of your breast augmentation procedure.
First and foremost, you can help minimize scars by avoiding infection. The easiest way to do this is to closely follow all of Dr. Corey’s pre and postoperative care instructions. These will include:
- Cleaning your incisions
- Avoiding strenuous exercise
- Avoiding heavy lifting
- Not smoking
- Keeping hydrated
- Eating a healthy diet
All of these things can help speed recovery, reduce risks of infection or trauma, and minimize the final appearance of your scar. Additional steps may include applying a scar cream or silicone sheeting to the incisions once they have healed. This will be discussed with you in more detail during your breast augmentation planning phase.
