Can Breast Lift Reduce Cup Size?

SERVING SCOTTSDALE, PHOENIX, GILBERT, MESA, CHANDLER AND ARIZONA

Breast lift surgery (mastopexy) addresses sagging breast tissue – producing a firm, perky, and more youthful look to the chest. However, depending on how much ptosis (sagging) is present, this procedure may also slightly decrease breast size.

A small study published by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons found that, over a five year period following breast lift surgery, all participants experienced a decrease in cup size. For most of the study’s participants, this decrease was exactly one cup size, though a handful experienced slightly more. All participants noted they had switched bra manufacturers, which may have played some role in these results as well.

In the end, breast lift surgery will impact each woman differently, though certainly a slight loss of size is possible. If this is something that concerns you, Scottsdale plastic surgeon Dr. John Corey would be happy to discuss combining breast lift with implants to help prevent volume loss and ensure optimal proportions for years to come.
