When you think of plastic surgery, you likely assume most patients are women. While the ratio of male to female plastic surgery patients is still heavily comprised of women, more and more men are seeking liposuction and other cosmetic procedures to turn back time or improve an area of their body. Liposuction was the number one invasive surgery among men in 2016, with more than 45,000 procedures performed. June is Men’s Health Month, and our board-certified plastic surgeon is ready to help you achieve your ideal goals for your body and face.
Some of the other popular procedures for men in 2016 included:
- Breast Reduction to treat Gynecomastia: Approximately one in four men have gynecomastia, which is a condition that causes breast enlargement made up of excess breast tissue or fat. Male breast reduction for gynecomastia was performed more than 31,000 times in 2016.
- Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery): An eyelid lift or eyelid surgery is done for both cosmetic and functional reasons such as when a drooping eyelid interferes with vision. More than 28,000 men had a blepharoplasty in 2016, which involves repositioning and tightening muscles in the eyelid and removing any excess fat or skin tissue.
- Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery): Nose surgery is typically done in your teenage years or early 20s and is performed to correct a deviated septum or improve the size and shape of your nose.
- Chin Augmentation: This is a common procedure for men performed to achieve a more pronounced jaw line.
Non-invasive options such as cosmetic injectables are also popular choices for men looking to get rid of facial lines and wrinkles.
