Botox, Dysport, Xeomin (Ona-,Abo-,Inco-Botulinum toxin type A)

What are Botox, Dysport and Xeomin?

Scottsdale BOTOXIf there is one thing that has literally changed the face of cosmetic treatment, it is the introduction of these anti-aging medications. Botox, Dysport and Xeomin are affordable methods to create a more youthful appearance of your face. Botulinum toxin type A (brand names Botox, Dysport, Xeomin (pronounced zee-oh-min), is injected under the skin to reduce or eliminate facial wrinkles. It works by blocking the release of acetylcholine, a chemical that is released by the skin's nerve cells that causes wrinkles.

Botox, Dysport and Xeomin do not only treat wrinkles, however. Patients suffering from the following conditions may be happy to learn that some or all of these agents have also been FDA-approved to treat the following as well:

  • Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)
  • Blepharospasms (uncontrollable blinking)
  • Cervical Dystonia (a neurological disorder causing severe neck and shoulder spasms)
  • Strabismus (misaligned eyes)

How are Botox, Dysport, Xeomin Administered at your Practice in Scottsdale?

We administer Botox, Dysport and Xeomin through a series of small injections with a tiny needle just below the skin by Dr. Corey or a qualified member of his staff. Keep in mind the injection point is where the muscle contracts, not necessarily on the wrinkle itself.

How tiny of a needle? Do the injections hurt?

Kind of…But not bad!!! The needles are very small and the solution itself that is injected does not sting. It’s usually described as hurting about twice as bad as tweezing your most stubborn eyebrow hair. And even with the pain, 99.9% of patients say it is well worth it!!!

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox, Dysport or Xeomin?

Almost anyone looking to reduce fine lines and wrinkles may be a good candidate for Botox, Dysport and Xeomin since they are very safe with minimal complications or downtime. The FDA has approved these agents for the cosmetic treatment of wrinkles between the brow but doctors have been using them for off-label treatment of other areas as well, the most common being the forehead and “crow’s feet” areas. Botox, Dysport and Xeomin can be used to treat already wrinkling areas or as a preventative tool to slow their development in patients not yet showing these signs of aging.

What Kind of Post-Procedure Care Can I Expect?

There are few, if any, side effects of Botox, Dysport and Xeomin so patients can typically resume normal activities immediately. Common side effects may include headache, nausea, flu-like symptoms and redness or pain at the injection site, and Dr. Corey may advise you to stay out of the sun.

In addition, some of our Botox, Dysport and Xeomin patients reported muscle weakness or a droopy upper eyelid, but this typically goes away on its own. If you have received Botox, Dysport or Xeomin and are experiencing unusual or persistent side effects, please consult with Dr. Corey.

What are the typical results of receiving Botox, Dysport or Xeomin?

Our Botox, Dysport and Xeomin patients report being happy to have that angry or frowning look gone from their face with this treatment. In addition, wrinkles are typically reduced by 80 percent, giving you a more youthful and refreshed appearance.  Patients can expect to see results in two to five days, which last anywhere from three to six months. It just seems to give a kinder, more “gentle” appearance! But remember, Botox, Dysport and Xeomin help reduce movement leading to wrinkles but not fill them in. Some of the deeper lines may not totally disappear and the proper use of dermal fillers can be a great adjunct to the treatment of these facial lines.

How much do you charge for Botox, Dysport and Xeomin at your Scottsdale location?

Each Botox, Dysport and Xeomin patient has different needs but generally plan on around $200 per area (like between the brows), once every 4-6 months with some variation possible. You'll want to discuss cost with Dr. Corey or a member of his staff prior to injection. The friendly and knowledgeable team at Dr. Corey’s practice is available for one-on-one consultations to discuss pricing, as well as answer any questions or ease any concerns you may have about receiving Botox, Dysport or Xeomin injections. We're happy to provide you with all the information you need to reach your aesthetic goals.

A Word of Caution!

The old saying “you get what you pay for” certainly applies to Botox, Dysport and Xeomin. There are businesses that offer greatly reduced prices but many times with greatly reduced product!!! It can be diluted or not the original Botox, Dysport or Xeomin. Also be aware of who is doing the injections and in what setting. Maybe a strip mall, salon, spa or “Botox party” are not the best places to receive a one on one consultation with an experienced physician or nurse injector.
